A
native
New
Yorker
of
Italian
stock,
Vic
Damone
began
his
vocal
education
at
the
age
of
11
and
when
he
turned
18,
Damone
secured
employment
as
an
usher
at
Broadway's
famous
Paramount
Theatre
which
helped
pay
for
vocal
lessons
and
also
offered
him
the
chance
to
study
a
range
of
professionals
at
work.
A
year
later
in
1947
he
signed
a
recording
contract
and
almost
immediately
achieved
his
first
Top
Ten
hit
with
"I
Have
But
One
Heart"
(O
Marinariello),
sung
in
English
and
Italian.
In
1949
Damone
scored
his
first
chart
topper
with
"You're
Breaking
My
Heart",
another
ballad
with
an
Italian
origin,
and
in
1950
he
was
invited
by
MGM
to
star
in
"Rich
Young
And
Pretty"
opposite
Jane
Powell.
His
other
films
include
the
musical
"Kismet",
"Hit
The
Deck"
and
"The
Strip"
in
which
he
sang
"Don't
Blame
Me"
-
the
commercial
recording
is
included
here.
Throughout
the
1950s
Damone
recordings
charted
regularly
on
both
sides
of
the
Atlantic
and
in
1957
he
reached
the
number
one
slot
in
the
United
Kingdom
with
"On
The
Street
Where
You
Live".
He
also
performed
in
the
United
Kingdom
frequently
and
is
popular
with
the
British
public.
Damone
announced
his
retirement
recently
after
performing
for
over
6
decades.
Most
tracks
featured
here
have
never
appeared
on

before.
