Make
A
Wish
tells
the
story
of
the
French
orphan
who
escapes
the
orphanage
to
find
love
and
glamour
via
the
chorus
line
of
a
Parisian
hot-spot.
It
opened
on
Broadway
in
April
1951
and
ran
for
102
performances.
Music
and
lyrics
were
by
Hugh
Martin
whose
Best
Foot
Forward
and
Look
Ma,
I'm
Dancing
had
previously
been
successful
on
the
old
white
way.
A
year
on
he
would
travel
to
London
to
work
on
Love
From
Judy.
The
cast
was
headed
by
Nanette
Fabray
(best
remembered
for
her
film
role
in
The
Band
Wagon)
who
had
starred
on
Broadway
in
High
Button
Shoes
and
in
Hollywood
in
the
Our
Gang
films.
She
was
supported
by
a
strong
team
-
Melville
Cooper
in
a
non-singing
role;
Helen
Gallagher,
soon
to
be
a
leading
lady
herself;
Stephen
Douglass,
recently
returned
from
London
where
he
had
originated
the
role
of
Billy
Bigelow
in
Carousel
to
great
success;
and
Harold
Lang,
who
created
the
role
of
Bill
Calhoun
in
Kiss
Me,
Kate.
The
cast
album
has
long
been
sought
after
by
collectors
and
we
are
delighted
to
be
re-issuing
it
including
bonus
tracks
recorded
by
Stephen
Douglass
while
in
London
and
in
America.
Almost
all
tracks
are
appearing
on
CD
for
the
very
first
time.
Douglass
went
on
to
star
opposite
Gwen
Verdon
in
Damm
Yankees
and
in
110
In
The
Shade,
both
on
Broadway.
He
currently
lives
in
the
United
Kingdom
and
kindly
provided
some

the
production
photographs
reproduced
in
the
CD
booklet.
