Gibbs

By
the
mid
1950's
Georgia
Gibbs
was
a
well
established
artist
with
many
best
selling
records
to
her
credit
and
many
of
those
titles
are
to
be
found
on
our
previous
Georgia
Gibbs
CD
issue
"Red
Hot
Georgia"
on
SEPIA
1016.
Although
her
biggest
hits
were
cover
versions
of
songs
originally
recorded
by
black
singers
her
talent
extended
beyond
that
genre
as
demonstrated
by
the
variety
of
musical
settings
on
this
new
compilation.
The
collection
sets
off
in
grand
style
with
a
rare
recording
from
1940
with
Georgia
(credited
as
Fredda
Gibson
as
she
was
then
known)
singing
a
typical
example
of
Cole
Porter's
wit
and
innuendo
The
Laziest
Gal
In
Town.
Her
first
major
record
label
contract
was
with
Coral
Records
where
she
was
often
teamed
with
Bob
Crosby
as
heard
on
the
bright
Cherry
Stones
and
Dream
A
Little
Dream
Of
Me.
Her
versatile
vocal
style
was
used
to
full
advantage
and
she
recorded
pop
ballads,
Latin
numbers,
novelty
items,
rock
and
roll
and
big
band
music.
She
was
involved
with
some
of
the
then
up
and
coming
talents
on
the
recording
scene,
writers
Leiber
and
Stoller
who
contribute
Love
Me
and
Blueberries
on
this
30
track
album
while
her
studio
sessions
were
supervised
by
cousins
Hugo
(Peretti)
and
Luigi
(Creatore).
They
were
responsible
for
many
of
the
cover
versions
she
recorded
such
as
Tra
La
La,
which
took
Georgia
Gibbs
to
number
24
in
the
American
charts.
The
final
title
on
this
CD
was
carefully
chosen
not
just
for
its
sentimental
value
but
as
a
fine
example
of
a
talented
vocalist
at
work.
We
end
with
I'll
Be
Seeing
You
with
its
lush
string
accompaniment
backing
the
sultry,
tender
voice
of
Georgia
Gibbs,
Girl
Singer.
