The four Ames Brothers were real brothers from Massachusetts who dominated the American pop charts in the 1950s with 3 chart-toppers and 37 Top 30 hits over the 10 year period. They also starred in their own TV show and their concept albums achieved chart success.
Of the 30 tracks on this CD, 24 are from the two LPs released in 1960 - THE AMES BROTHERS SING THE BEST OF THE BANDS and THE AMES BROTHERS: THE BLEND AND THE BEAT with the remaining 6 tracks from the LP, HELLO AMIGOS. As suggested by the LP titles, the songs are standards from the Great American Songbook first made famous by the Big Bands and are all appearing on CD for the first
time.
The Ames Brothers went their separate ways in the mid sixties – Ed had already left the group in 1961 and is still working at the time of writing – affected by the changes in the style of pop music at the time. In 1998 the Ames Brothers were inducted to the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame and this Sepia collection reminds the listener of their talent, combining rich vocal harmonies presented in a polished professional manner.
